Dhyana
Ashramwas founded by Fr. Sylvester Kozhimannil formerly a member of Kurisumala
Ashram, on 15 May 1979 as an Eparchial Contemplative Monastery in the Diocese of
Bathery. The Typicon (Constitution) was approved by the congregation for the
Oriental Churches, Roma, as ?Sui juris? autonomous monastery on 4 October 2000.
This is the only autonomous Ashram in India as an independent monastery under
the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. The monks follow strict vegetarian
diet, complete silence adapted to the way of Christian and Hindu sanyasa. The
community earns their living only from agricultural income.
